Mission

Society

Patanjali Seva Sansthan came into existence on 5^th May 2010, with the following aims and objectives:-

Principal Message

Education plays a very significant role in minimizing and elimination of various socio-economic disparities plaguing our society. Access to quality education with equity in opportunity will ensure that every child receives requisite educational acumen to harness his or her innate talents. We at Rishikul are proactive in our curriculum setting and the content of teaching learning material to make it child centric.

School is a miniature society it is the place where a child learns important values such as cooperation, honesty, integrity and more importantly a mindset of service above self. At Rishikul our constant endeavor is to instill in the child the aforesaid qualities.

We lay stress on learning by doing method, a number of group activities, exhibition and other co-curricular activities are organized to achieve the goal of holistic learning. Today parents are equal partners in the educational system. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parents who have continued to render their support with regular feedback. No institution can progress without a proactive management. Prof. Krishna Gupta, Vice President of Patanjali Group of school has always guided me to become a better administrator and more over a good human being. I also extend my gratitude to Mr. Yashovardhan, Director of Patanjali Rishikul for his constant support. Brief History

Patanjali Rishikul became operational in April, 2011. It is situated at 2, Shilakhana Road, Teliarganj, Opposite MNNIT gate, Allahabad. The school is located in an open space with green and healthy surrounding. The building has well ventilated, spacious, neat and clean classrooms and well equipped laboratories for Science,Computer Science and Mathematics. All the classrooms are digitalized. The school has a well maintained playground for the students. Presentlytheschool comprises of classes I to XII.

The institutionwas upgraded to secondary level in 2015. Further in 2017, the infrastructure of the school was developed to cater to the requirements of senior secondary level students. The institution got upgraded for Senior Secondary with the CBSE with affiliation number -2131637.

The school draws its inspiration from the vision of Late LokmaniLalJiwhoheld that only Lighthouses of learning would regenerate our nation. For him Education was the art of shaping the citizens of character and integrity, instilling in them a spirit of service and making them creative contributors to the nation.

The school seeks to promote holistic and value based education and make learning a joyful experience for the students. It strives to create a conducive environment where the students are liberated from fear and insecurity and are able to evolve fully and freely under the guidance of experienced and enthusiastic team of teachers.

True education abstains man from narrow-minded thinking, selfishness, ego, violence and anger, it helps spread and suffuse love, kindness and compassion amongst fellow beings.

Admission to students at different levels are given on the basis of vacancies and availabilities.

All admission in different classes are strictly made on the basis of marks obtained in the admission test followed by an informal interview. A student seeking admission on transfer from another school must submit the Transfer Certificate and the progress report of the previous class issued by the school. No admission is complete unless all the documents in support of the eligibility such as birth certificate, school leaving certificate etc. are submitted and fee is paid as per directives issued from time to time. Any parent/guardian seeking direct admission of his/her ward for the first time must also submit the birth certificate of his/her ward issued by the Municipal authorities supported by an affidavit. Date of birth once recorded in the register will not be changed as per CBSE by laws. Parents must be careful in registering the correct Date of Birth of their ward. No application pertaining to the change in the D.O.B. will be entertained by the office. Students coming from other states or other Boards must get their T.C. countersigned by the competent educational authority of that state before depositing it in the office. Without a T.C. admission procedure is incomplete and promotion to next class will be withheld.

The academic year is from April, 1 to March, 31 of the succeeding year. The whole session is divided into two terms-from April to September and October to March with a view to have proper and systematic working and to give a balanced treatment to the whole syllabus and to provide students comprehensive feedback through class tests and terminal examinations. The School strictly follows the pattern of evaluation as defined by CBSE and conducts all activities assigned by the board.

The Fee Booklet contains all information related to school fees and its rules and regulations. (Refer to Annexure 7C).

The school provides superior quality facilities to its staff and students to ensure smooth functioning and a productive environment for learning.

Teaching learning process at Patanjali Rishikul is well integrated with technology. All classes are digitalized. ITC plays an integral role in the teaching learning process. Learning at Patanjali Rishikul is participatory and activity based.

The school lays emphasis on self-discipline. It inculcates values like regularity, punctuality, obedience and respect for all members of society. At Patanjali Rishikul students are trained to become leaders of tomorrow.

In order to qualities of leaderships develop teams spirit. The students of Rishikul are divided in five houses. The name of houses are based on ‘Panchbhuta’ or five elements.

Moral education and value based learning is an important part of school curriculum. The main purpose is to inculcate love and pride for our nation and generate qualities of good citizenship.

The school lays great emphasis on both scholastic and co- scholastic activities the school motivates its students to participate in such activities in and outside the school. Students have excelled in various curricular and co-curricular activities.

There are adequate arrangements to avoid any mishap like two stair-cases and two lifts. Fire extinguishers on every floor have been placed for emergencies. Regular training and mock drills are conducted for children and school staff to face disastrous situations.

There are a total of 7 gates in the school campus where trained security guards have been deputed. The school has increased the number of guards and CCTV cameras at different areas of the campus for proper surveillance. Teachers have been deployed on a rotational basis in the morning when the children come to school so that they are not left alone. Teachers are also on duty during dispersal.

The school boasts of rain water harvesting facility and a well-maintained garden to instill love for nature amongst students and staff.

Physical activity is a sign of good health. Playing in safe environment promotes general fitness as well as mental and sensory integration benefiting from indoor games as well as outdoor games.

The school has a fully air conditioned Yoga room with soft flooring and a full time yoga teacher. For promoting physical development great emphasis is laid on sports, games, P.T. and yoga. Group games help to enhance team spirit and healthy competition among students. The school has a huge play area with Basketball court, Volleyball court and a Badminton court. It also has a well equipped indoor games room.

Special area to practice martial art is also available. Sporting Activities are taken up like Basketball, Hand ball, Kho–Kho, Football, Judo, Athletics etc.

The school also has a special play area for the juniors where outdoor play equipments like junior gym, slides, merry – go – round etc. are available.The area has soft, colourful flooring to ensure that children do not get hurt while playing.

Special training camps for Wushu, Karate, Volley Ball by National level trainers are organized during vacations.

Cleanliness is given prime importance, therefore well cleaned toilets with24 hrs water supply is ensured. Regular spraying of insecticides and pesticides is done to keep the environment clean. Regular training sessions and mock drills are organized for children and school staff to face any disastrous situation. Round the clock clean and safe drinking water is available for the students and staff of the school.

The school has a spacious and air conditioned music and dance rooms with L.C.D units and a wall sized mirrors to help students to correct their expressions while performing.

The institution also has an art and craft room for students to give shape to their creativity.

Patanjali Rishikul offers well equipped and well ventilated hi-tech Physics ,Chemistry and Biology Laboratories for students to build their creativity, critical thinking, problem solving skills and enhance their heuristic temperament.

Library is the nerve-centre of an institution. It provides materials to supplement and enrich instructions and guidance given in the class. The school library has a variety of books, Magazines, Periodicals, Newspapers and Journals it has extensive collection of encyclopedias, reference books and CDs and DVDs. The school library has internet connection which helps in project work.

The school has literary and reading club, language club, Maths & Science Club, Eco-Club, Cultural Club, Art & Craft Club, Hindi Club and Multi Media Club, the main purpose of having these clubs is to enhance the talents of the students.

The school has formulated special committees for the benefit of students. These committees ensure that the rights and interests of the child are secured.

School Counsellor organizes regular counseling sessions for students, teacher and parents. Case studies are maintained and action area each plans is done which has helped better functioning of the school as well as achievement of goals by the learners.

The school follows ideal student space ratio of 1:40 sq. ft., student-teacher ratio of 1:30 and section to teacher ratio of 1:1.5, keeping in mind the comfort of the students and to ensure individual attention.

In order to enhance the methods of teaching and to sharpen their skills, year round in-service training programmes, workshops, talks and seminars are organized on various topics related to school teaching and healthy living. The resource persons are eminent educators and subject experts from all over the country. These include numerous academic enrichment programmesalongwith seminars on Nutrition and Diet, Accupressureand Life Skills. (Refer to Annexure7H)

EARLY CHILDHOOD

With a rising number of parents using tech gadgets to pacify toddlers, it’s unsurprising that over the past decade there’s been a corresponding increase in the incidence of digital eye strain among young children. Children below five years are most vulnerable to ocular damage, as their still-developing eyes are unable to cope with the speed of moving images on electronic screens.

Digital eye strain, aka computer vision syndrome (CVS), describes a group of eye and vision-related problems that result from prolonged computer, tablet and mobile phone usage. Among the most common symptoms associated with CVS are eyestrain; headaches: blurred vision; dry eyes and neck and shoulder pain.

“Over the past six years I have witnessed an increase in the number of children under five suffering vision-related problem. Most complain of photophobia i.e, discomfort or pain to the eyes due to light exposure, and dry eyes. Prolonged exposure to digital screens can have damaging consequences on children’s eyes. Parents need to desist from using smart phones and computer tabs as pacifiers,” says Dr. Dahlia Krishnan, consultant ophthalmologist, Dr. Sreekanth’s Eyecare, Calicut.

According to Krishnan, symptoms of dry eye syndrome are irritation, redness, and discharge.”While viewing mobile phones, children often forget to blink because because they are transfixed by fast moving digital images. This is a major cause of dry eyes. With every blink, the surface of the eye is moistened so WHEN CHILDREN don’t blink enough irritation prompts a child to rub her eyes which causes greater discomfort, leading to dry eye syndrome,” she explains.

Krishan advises older children and adults to take a break after every 20 minutes on screen, and look into the distance for 20 seconds, allowing eye muscles to relax.

Among the many vision-related problems traced to excessive digital screen focus are refractive errors such as myopia and astigmatism. The American Academy of Paediatric Opthalmology says that too much on-screen time can aggravate the myopia of children already suffering from this vision ailment. Moreover it can induce myopia in children who don’t have it.

Comments Dr. Girijia Suresh,

Consultant paediatric ophthalmologist, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, Mumbai: “On average, I ten children every month for ocular problems related to excess digital screen exposure. The blue light emitted from laptops and mobiles is absorbed by the eyes, making optical tissues vunerable to damage. Thre is a postulation that in the long this could cause major damage to the retina, and increase and increase the chances of earky onset of cataract. Moreover when children play video games or watch animated movies, they ussualy do it in dark rooms with the ight intensity constantly increasing and decreasing. For every change in light intensity, eyes have to accommodate the size of pupils which dialate and revert. This makes children vulnerable to myopia.”

Dr. Suresh,s advice for digital screen time for children: 0-2 years-olds: nil; 2-5-years]-olds: 30 minutes per day and 6-14 years:1-2 hours per day.

Useful pointers on positioning of digital gadgets to minimize eye strain-

• The correct distance for reading books, mobiles and tabs is 30 – 40 cm from the eyes.
• The visual distance from screens of laptops and computers is 40 – 75 cm. This distance causes least eyestrain and reduces vision problems.
• Uncorrected vision problems can increase digital eye train.
• It’s advisable to view a computer or laptop sitting erect with eye looking downwards.
• Optimally, digital screen should be 4- 5 inches below eye level. Always position monitors and screens to avoid glare from overhead lighting and reflections from windows.

FUN WITH WORDS

It’s common practice to honor a person by naming a street/institution after her, but highly uncommon to have a word named after an individual. Eponym is a name/noun formed after a person. For instance, the Elizabethan age pertains to Queen Elizabeth I of England. Elizabethan is an eponym.

In the modern world, many political trends were christened after politician who set them. For example, Stalinism and Thatcherism. Many places towns, cities or countries are eponymously named. For example, Vancouver is named after explorer George Vancouver.

Medical jargon boats many eponyms with several diseases/viruses named after the site where they were discovered. These are known as geographic eponyms in medicine. Some examples:Bombay Blood Group,Jaipur Foot and Rocky Mountain spotted Fever. Plaster of Paris was named after the French capital when medicos there began using plaster to mend broken bones.

Numerous verbs have also been derieved from historical figures with their names linked with their ideas/innovations .the word boycott,chauvinist,quislingand sandwich originate from personal names.

Not surprisingly, famous people are eponyms for their innovative apparel. Cardigan is eponymous with the Earl of Cardigan and raglan is derived from Lord Raglan who saw action in the Crimean War.

Unsurprisingly literature has inspired eponyms. It’s common to find eponymous terms in literary criticism such as Dickensenian for melodramatic poetry and eccentric characters, and Proustian for personal memories.Similarly, mythology has spawned many an eponym such as someone having the Midas touch, an Achilies’ heel and being Herculean or a Venus.

Scientist are often honored for their innovations through linking their names with products-Rudolf Diese, Alessandro Volta and James Watt, or to process or Calculus. Likewise, botanist has plants named after them, such as magnolia and poinsettia.

Alzheimer’s disesase is named after its discoverer. Dr Alois Alzheimer, a German physician , who presented the case history of a 51 year old woman who suffered froma rare brain disorder. Avogadro’s number is named after early 19th century Indian scientist Amedeo Avagadro, who in 1811, first proposed that the volume of gas is proportional to number of atoms and molecules irrespective of the nature of a gas.

It is common to have companies named after their founders. For Instance when we refer to the eponymous founder of Ford Motor Company, we mean Henry Ford.

Words are formed in many ways. Eponyms help us remember important people in history who have contributed to shaping the human condition.
